About this deal

I love when I get to put on my super sleuth hat and attempt to figure out what is going on in a book. Additionally, I picked out the murderer nearly as soon as they were introduced and once the main piece of evidence was uncovered, it was so glaringly obvious that the actual reveal had no impact.

Lisa Jewell’s latest suspense “Watching You” made my stomach churn and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Looking back on it now, I can see the trap, but as I was reading the book, I blindly stepped right into it.The gripping psychological suspense from the number one bestselling author of Then She Was Gone and The Family Upstairs. Upon come home from work not long after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones receives a life-changing letter.

Chock-full of family secrets, passion, obsessions, and misconceptions, this is Jewell at her finest and I highly recommend this book. She photographs it in situ from many angles, and then, with her gloved fingers, she plucks the tassel from the floor and drops it into an evidence bag, which she seals. The characters (and there were many) whilst not always sympathetic, are well fleshed out and believable. I expected there to be a lot of neighbors watching based on the title, but I didn’t realize I signed up to watch adults just freaking STARE at each other the whole time.Smart move on her part, too, since it keeps readers on their toes and will hopefully prevent preconceived notions or expectations regarding format, formula or style. She stands up and turns to survey the scene of the crime: a scruffy kitchen, old-fashioned pine units, a green Aga piled with pots and pans, a large wooden table piled with table mats and exercise books and newspapers and folded washing, a small extension to the rear with a cheap timber glazed roof, double doors to the garden, a study area with a laptop, a printer, a shredder, a table lamp. One of Tom FitzWilliam's students, Jenna who lives in the same street that he lives on, thinks that he isn't what he seems to be since he has taken interest to her friend and classmate. After devoting my entire October to-read list to supernatural thrillers for spooky season, I was ready to get back to my psychological suspense roots this month—and ideally, I wanted something that was a little bit more lighthearted and “popcorn-y” for a change of pace.

This is a deliciously dark and tangled tale of burdensome and consuming lies, lust, and deeply hidden truths. I love to read and review various genres with a focus on contemporary fiction, historical fiction with some mysteries/thrillers and also select nonfiction and memoirs. Add in the two couples living two doors down from the Fitzwilliams, two schoolgirls from Tom's school, and the crazy mom of one of the schoolgirls, and things become very soap opera-ish in an enjoyably creepy way. Hands down the most stunning girl in school back in the day, Delilah was a continuous source of sorrow to Nadine, who has been Dig's closest friend for the last decade and a half. Freddie Fitzwilliam– Fifteen years old, fiercely intelligent, and friendless, Freddie lives at the top of the house. There’s a host of participants running rampant throughout, the mystery found in deciphering which of the watchers/watched are in fact driven by dark motives. But until you’ve experienced the incredible mix of emotions that a sibling brings to your life it’s really very hard to imagine. We start the book with the knowledge that someone has been found dead in their home and spent the rest of the novel attempting to piece together “whodunnit. If there’s one theme that sticks out it’s the consequences of secrets and what happens when it comes to the forefront. The following book club questions will have spoilersso if you haven’t read the novel yet, check out my preview and review first. She lives with her mentally ill mother, Frances who is paranoid and thinks she is being ‘gang-stalked’ and spied upon.It seems that no two Lisa Jewell novels are exactly the same, but that’s a good thing, in my opinion. I do think the audiobook would have been improved by a bigger cast as we have multiple perspectives from people of different ages and genders (a woman in her late 50’s is never the right choice to voice a teenage boy in my opinion), but that’s not exclusive to this performance.
