About this deal

Isolated from Kirol Syrreth proper by the Sea of Tears, it was a part of their homeland rarely visited by most inhabitants—human or otherwise—of that nation. It's an entertaining 'Lord of the Rings' version, but from the bad guys' point of view, on what happened after the destruction of the One Ring. This is not a book for those who feel compelled to skip the icky bits in Game of Thrones, or who are put off by profanity (because the novel contains an awful fucking lot of it). The story is rather well executed, with the team moving from disaster to disaster, somehow succeeding in each case. Interesting personality quirk, but again, it’s the same schtick repeated over and over again for 500+ pages, and it gets pretty annoying after a while.

Centuries of plotting from the heart of the Iron Keep, deep within the dark lands of Kirol Syrreth--all for naught. As humorous as the premise might be and as funny as the characters are, there is also a gritty and, at times, very tough side to The Goblin Corps. The overall story is really a series of Demon Squad adventures, tied loosely together by the pending "final" showdown between good and evil. Umm, Ulev came running back, told us there was a small human caravan cutting through the foothills on the other side of the range. As for the main characters themselves, the novelty of them being evil monstrous humanoids wears out after about 200 pages into the book.

His left tusk was missing, one of his spindly ears had been torn halfway from his head, and his right arm hung loose at his side, flapping horribly from the elbow down. Wen interessiert es da schon, dass sich seine Champions nicht leiden können und ständig kurz davorstehen, sich gegenseitig umzubringen? At the same time, The Goblin Corps offers a couple of improvements that makes the book even more rewarding and fun to read than The Conqueror’s Shadow.

The Iron Keep of the lich-king and his wife’s city state of Castle Eldritch are truly creepy locales, detailed with great flair for the reader’s enjoyment. CONCLUSION: As much as I enjoyed reading The Conqueror’s Shadow by Ari Marmell, The Warlord’s Legacy left a bad taste in my mouth, and because of that, I almost passed on The Goblin Corps. FORMAT/INFO: The Goblin Corps is 552 pages long divided over a Prologue, eleven numbered/titled chapters, and an Epilogue. Shakespeare did it all the time with characters like Iago from “Othello”, Caliban in “The Tempest” or that main character in “that Scottish play”. Author’s Note: This Reviewer received a complimentary copy of the novel from which the review was written.
